Biographical / Historical

Upon graduation from the U.S. Military Academy in 1887, Lenihan went out to Fort Assinniboine, Montana, then Indian Territory; thence to Cuba and the Philippine Islands during the Spanish-American War; to the Hawaiian Department; and in 1917 to France as a Brigadier General with the 83rd Infantry Brigade of the 42nd Infantry Division (Rainbow Division). While in France, General Lenihan participated in the Aisne-Marne, St. Mihiel, Champagne, and Meuse-Argonne campaigns. He retired from the Army in 1929.
