Scope and Contents From the Collection: The collection consists of ten boxes of papers which fully document Rosinski' s personal life and academic career, both in Europe and America. They are divided into six series: Personal records, Correspondence, Writings, Lectures and Seminars, Unpublished Writings, and Notes and Outlines. These designations follow the sequence and numerical designations assigned to them by Dr. Stebbins.Series I, Personal records, contains biographical statements, photographs, fellowship applications, income tax records, medical records, estate records and copies of his obituary.Correspondence, Series II, contains both letters to and from Rosinski and correspondence initiated by Dr. Richard P. Stebbins and Dr. Evelyn M. Cherpak, regarding the location of Rosinski manuscripts in other libraries. The correspondence series is arranged alphabetically and chronologically within, except for several folders (arranged by subject) containing correspondence written in German and sent by Rosinski from India in 1948-1949 and from Europe in 1958-1961. The latter are addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Richard P. Stebbins. The bulk of the correspondence is with military leaders, political figures, publishing houses, universities and private think tanks and focuses on his academic appointments, research work and publications, lecturerships, contracts for services and books and letters of congratulations and appreciation. Scope and Contents From the Collection:

This collection contains correspondence, articles, research materials, speeches and lectures, books, audio and video cassette tapes, maps, photographs, and scrapbooks relating to Frank M. Snyder’s naval and academic careers from 1941 through 2010. The bulk of this collection documents Snyder’s academic work following his retirement from the Navy in 1970. Included are various research materials, audiocassettes, slides, and other materials collected and utilized by Snyder for his lectures and publications on several topics such as naval battles of World War II, Navy command and control systems, naval operational planning, the attack of the Liberty in 1967, the Spanish-American War, and Newport as a fleet base.

Additionally, this collection includes three scrapbooks of documents collected by Snyder documenting his career from enlistment into the Navy through his retirement as a faculty member of the Naval War College. These scrapbooks include photographs, correspondence, newspaper clippings, certificates, Snyder’s naval orders, and some research information about the ships he served on during his active duty in the Navy.

This collection was arranged by Frank M. Snyder into related subjects, an order which has been respected by NHC staff members throughout the processing of this collection.

Content Description From the Collection: The papers, in the main, cover the period 1898-1987 and fully document his naval career and his retirement years. They are divided into six series. Series I, family papers, consists of genealogical materials taken from Morgan City, Louisiana Archives on the Brashear and Lawrence families, a history of Morgan City, LA, and correspondence and newspaper clippings regarding the restoration of the Lawrence family cemetery in Bayside, Long Island. Correspondence, speeches and writings of various family members are found here too, as well as biographical and autobiographical materials on Admiral Eccles.Correspondence, Series II, is divided into five subseries; Naval orders and career correspondence, personal correspondence, official correspondence, letters of condolence to Mrs. Eccles on the death of Admiral Eccles, and miscellaneous correspondence of others that was found in his papers.Eccles' correspondence reveals aspects of his naval career, his many professional and intellectual interests and associations, and his study of military logistics. Major segments focus on his official naval orders and assignments, including his entrance into the U.S. Academy; his command of the USS JOHN D.
