Eller, Ernest, M., RADM, USN, 1903-1992. This volume is devoted in its entirety to World War II and Eller's ignments during the war, including his tenure as Assistant Naval Attache and observer of the Royal Navy which took him aboard warships and to defense establishments in the British Isles; he was aboard the HMS Hood and HMS Prince of Wales before the encounter with the Bismarck in May 1941; Following his re turn from England he was assigned to the Fleet Training Division and Ordnance Department, Navy Department, during which he helped to select the site for the Navy's Anti-Aircraft Gunnery Training School at Dam Neck, Virginia; Gunnery Officer, USS Saratoga, 1941-1942; Assistant Gunnery and Anti-Submarine Training Officer, Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet, 1942- 1945, during which he participated in and helped to plan the campaigns in the South and Central Pacific; CO, USS Clay, which transported occupation troops toJapan, 1945; Public Information Officer, Twelfth Naval District, San Francisco, Calif., and Washington, D.C., 1945-1946. Retired, 1954.
