Biographical / Historical
All ships were selected to be transferred to Britian's Royal Navy as part of the destroyers-for-bases deal. On their way to Halifax, Nova Scotia, the turnover point for the "50 ships that saved the world," they stopped in Newport.
USS TWIGGS (DD-127) became HMS LEAMINGTON
USS PHILIP (DD-76) became HMS LANCASTER
USS EVANS (DD-78) became HMS MANSFIELD
USS YARNALL (DD-143) became HMS LINCOLN
