Letters sent to his mother, father and sister, 1905–1919, during active duty as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, 1905–1908, and with the U.S. Army in France and Germany during WWI, 1917–1919. Letters describe a train trip across country to Bremerton, WA where he was on USS Ranger which went to the Philippines, then in USS Elcano and USS Galveston in China and Japan; WWI letters describe his work with the Sanitary Corps in hospital units, his wounds and recovery; Photographs of the Philippines, China, Japan, Vladivostok, Russia, Hawaii, and Guam, Copy of photo of Lt. Leith, ca. 1917
