Biographical Note

Dorothy Council was born in Northampton, MA in 1912. She graduated from Smith College in 1933 and worked for Macy's Department Store before joining the WAVES in 1942. She joined the Navy again in 1948 and retired with the rank of captain in 1972. She died in Newport, R.I. in 1997.
