Historical Note
Women Officers School, part of the Naval Officer Training Center, was established in 1948 as a result of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act. WOS conducted two separate courses: a 16 week officer candidate program for line and supply corps officers and a 5.5 week course for all Navy Nurse Corps officers - men and women. In 1973, for the first time, men and women attended officer candidate training together, eliminating the need for a separate school.
