Series I is divided into two parts, Part I is devoted to Military Intelligence and Part II is devoted to technical
intelligence. Each part is arranged on different classification schemes. There is a card catalog index for Series I, available only onsite at the Naval Historical Collection. Nine drawers are devoted to an alphabetical listing by subject and four drawers are devoted to an alphabetical listing by the source of the material. This index is not complete and only relates to documents from 1910-1938.Series I, Part I has approximately 51 linear feet of material. About 19.5 linear feet of this collection focuses on intelligence information about foreign countries, 27 linear feet is devoted to information about U.S. forces and, the remaining 5 linear feet is World War I focused.Part I is organized on the following scheme of classification:
