This collection consists of correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, and other materials relating to LCDR John T. Georges’ career in the U.S. Navy, particularly his service on the U.S.S. Hobson, and later as the Athletic Director at the Naval Education and Training Center in Newport, R.I. The materials relating to the U.S.S. Hobson concern mostly to Georges’ research into the Hobson crewmembers who survived the tragic collision with the U.S.S. Wasp in April 1952. Georges was involved in reconstructing theHobson's records after it sunk as well as determining which crewmembers would worth of awards and commendation for their heroic acts.
