The collection consists of two notebooks, one of which contains copies of letters written to his wife describing the cruelties, the intolerable conditions and the brutality of guards. He also wrote letters to Ludyah Robinson, esq, May 27-30, 1832. There are copies of letters to Mrs. Hosmer from Asa M. and from Stanford Robinson, June 3, 1882, who told her of her son's death; and a letter from James Price to Ludyah Robinson, May 30,1822.

The second notebook contains "a partial history" of the final days of Asa Hosmer and his son, Asa M., based on letters received by his wife and daughter, Sophia Robinson. This account was written by a 20th century descendant and covers the period from 1816 to the 1850s.

Journal detailing the daily operations of the Naval War College starting on 1892 Jul 22 when Captain A. T. Mahan assumed command as its President through 1895 Feb 19. This volume includes notes about the daily weather conditions, events taking place each day, and the time when buildings were closed each day.

Daily diary or log maintained by Commander Charles H. Stockton detailing the construction of Luce Hall from 1891-1892. Also included at the end of this volume is a financial memorandum as to the building appropriations.

Notebook belonging to Newton A. McCully containing lectures from his time as an NWC student and recordings of testing at the Naval Ordnance Proving Ground at Indian Head, Maryland.

Pages 1-33 consist of McCully’s notes from NWC lectures, 1892 Sep-Oct, includes those by A.T. Mahan and C.H. Stockton and cover a wide range of topics such as naval strategy, tactics, gunnery, naval history, electricity, steam power, and hygiene.

Pages 34 to the end of the volume are "memorandum of work done at the Naval Ordnance Proving Ground at Indian Head Md, beginning Nov 1 1892-Sep 21, 1893.
