Diary of Navy diver and technical sergeant with the 1051st Engineers Port Construction and Repair Group in Palermo, Sicily and Naples, Italy, 1943 Aug 1-1944 Feb 18. In this diary, Kelly described German air raids, casualties, hours of diving, the Italian surrender in 1943, starving populations in Sicily, his work on HMS Palamares in Naples, visits to an orphanage, and explosions and in the harbor. Also included are letters of commendation, 1944; special orders, 1943; and an excerpt from the New York Times.
