Biographical / Historical

Olympia was decommissioned in 1899; returned to active service in 1902; served until World War I as a training ship and a floating barracks; mobilized in 1917, patrolling the American coast and escorting transport ships; decommissioned for the last time in December, 1922; a museum ship in Philadelphia since 1957; declared a National Historic Landmark in 1966; the oldest steel US warship still afloat.
