This collection includes five letters from Stephen B. Luce, founder of the U.S. Naval War College, and one letter from Alfred T. Mahan, esteemed naval officer and historian.
Early records of the U.S. Naval War College
Correspondence, memoranda, lists, contracts, inventories, military and naval orders, and plans regarding the early administration and curriculum of the Naval War College, new building construction, and items relating to the establishment of a naval coaling station in Narraganset Bay. Also included are journals and letterpress copybooks kept by past NWC presidents Charles Stockton and French Chadwick.

Mahan, Alfred T.: Abstract of his Lectures - Strategy of the Caribbean and Napoleon's Campaign of 1796, 1896
Abstract of six lectures on strategy that were given by Captain A. T. Mahan at the Naval War College. Over some time, Mahan delivered a course of lectures upon strategy that clearly and forcibly set forth the great truths of the art of war. The whole course was divided into two series, the first being, "The Strategic Features of the Caribbean" and the second series was devoted to "Some Considerations of the Art of War, Naval and Land, with Illustrations from Bonaparte's Italian Campaign of 1796-1797."
