Burke, Arleight A., ADM, USN, 1901-1996. This oral history is divided into six interviews, each focusing on a separate topic in no particu lar chronological order. In interview one, Admiral Burke tells of an invitation to participate in a Japanese 1V documentary dealing with the use of minesweepers in the Korean War, while in in terview two he focuses on the evolution of the Japanese Navy and his role in it. Interview three deals with the Korean War and Burke's role as CNO Forrest Sherman's representative there. In terviews four through six treat Burke's wartime association with Admiral Marc Mitscher, when he served as his chief of staff during the major battles in the Central Pacific.

This volume in the Special Series deals with Burke's service on the General Board, March 1947 toJuly 1948,where he was tasked with a study of the Naval Shore Establishment. This project expanded to include the relevant civilian and military agencies in an effort to plan for the years ahead. Burke comments on his appointment to the Korean Armistice Delegation duringJuly-De cember 1951, that began work on a treaty while fighting still continued, and his position as head of OP-30, the Strategic Plans Division of the Navy.

Volume IV in the Special Series with Admiral Burke focuses on the Unification Controversy in 1949.The first part contains Admiral Burke's narrative on Military History from the French Revo lution through WWII and the lessons derived there from. A series of six interviews follows in which Burke treats the establishment in 1948 of OP-23, a division of the Staff of the Chief of Naval Operations. As head of OP-23, Burke had to fend off attempts by the Air Force to absorb naval avi ation, in what became known as the Unification Controversy. Topics and persons discussed include the Air Force, James Forrestal, the French Army, Napoleon, WWI, WWII, and Stuart Symington.

Oral History interview with Gunner's Mate, Arlene Chilson, who was assigned to NAS Corps Christ, Beeville and Kingsville Texas during WWII. Chilson joined the WAVES in 1944 and was trained as gunnery instructor in Pensacola, FL. Her reminiscences of her WAVES service in this unique specialty will be invaluable for a history of the WAVES in WWII. Chilson (nee Linne) was stationed in Corpus Christi NAS, Beeville, TX and Kingsville, TX. She remained in service until 1949 when her husband was transferred to another base.
